Olives and oil mills of the province of Alicante

Alicante is not only a land of wine and rice; it also produces sensational extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), some of the best in Spain. The local varieties of olives that are used to produce exceptional EVOO have a lot to do with this. The varieties of olives from Alicante are:

Alfafarenca or Alfafar (native to Alfafara and one of the 24 main varieties of Spain), Blanqueta (native to Muro, it is also one of the main varieties), Changlot Real (from Enguera, in Valencia, although it is grown almost exclusively in the Alto and Medio Vinalopó), Rojal from Alicante (it has its origins in the area of Cañada), Villalonga (it is grown in the south of Valencia and the north part of Alicante) and Callosina (native to the south part of the province).

These are the most popular varieties used by thirty Alicante olive oil producers, the most famous brands include Masía El Altet, Señorios de Relleu, La Alquería, San Cristóbal, 5 Oliveres o Las Virtudes.
